There are about two hundred individual species that are in the family of Moray Eels. They can typically be found in the shallow reefs of tropical waters. Because of their elongated, ‘anguilliform’ bodies, moray eels move by waving like a ribbon in the water. This unique mode of swimming is extremely efficient, but pretty slow. The anguilliform bodies give moray eels the mobility to easily swim backwards into tight crevices and holes in reefs. Moray Eels are intelligent and versatile ambush predators that mostly hunt at night.
