Van Dieman’s Ink of the Month – August 2025: Monarch Butterfly

Inspired by the unmistakable vibrancy and grace of the Monarch Butterfly, this ink celebrates one of nature’s most iconic winged wonders. Native to North America but found fluttering through gardens worldwide, the Monarch is renowned for its long migratory journey and striking orange-and-black patterning that signals both beauty and boldness.

Monarch Butterfly is a radiant, yellow-orange fountain pen ink with exceptional shading and saturated vibrancy. Designed for writers who want their words to leap off the page, this ink offers a powerful legibility even in finer nibs, yet still produces nuanced transitions from deep golden amber to fiery orange in broader strokes.

This is a smooth-flowing ink with a perfectly balanced viscosity that glides effortlessly across the page—ideal for journaling, correspondence, or creative writing that needs to stand out.

The featured artwork, created by Belinda Rix using only Van Dieman’s Inks, captures a fluttering scene of Monarchs among glowing leaves and a dusk-toned sky. The piece incorporates:

Monarch Butterfly (for the wings and focal orange areas)
Hailstorm (for the stormy, purplish background)
Catnip and Sea Turtle (for the leaves in varying shades of green)
Madam Butterfly and European Honey Bee Eater Chin (for subtle detailing and highlights)

With its unique blend of brightness, elegance, and natural inspiration, Monarch Butterfly is a must-have for lovers of bold color and silky writing experience.
