Oshima cherry trees, also known as Prunus Lannesiana, are a species of cherry tree native to the island of Oshima in Japan.
These trees are known for their large, white flowers, which bloom in early spring and are considered a symbol of the arrival of spring. Oshima cherry trees are similar to the more well-known sakura, or cherry blossom, trees in that they are both species of the cherry tree and are associated with the arrival of spring in Japan. However, there are a few differences between the two. Oshima cherry trees are native to the island of Oshima, while sakura trees are found throughout Japan.
Additionally, sakura trees are known for their delicate, pink flowers, while Oshima cherry trees have larger, white flowers. In terms of cultural significance, both sakura and Oshima cherry trees hold a place of honor in Japanese culture and are revered for their beauty and symbolic association with spring. Both types of trees are featured prominently in Japanese art, literature, and poetry, and are often depicted in full bloom or as individual flowers scattered across a surface.
