The pen features a breathtaking brass wire inlay technique, intricately depicting the powerful silhouette of a Brachiosaurus, carefully woven into the resin to create a dynamic visual experience. This ancient creature’s presence is further honored with a handcarved Brachiosaurus footprint on the finial, offering a detailed reminder of the prehistoric world.
A standout feature of this fountain pen is its handmade pen clip, meticulously crafted in the shape of an archaeological spade. This distinctive design element adds a clever and unique touch, celebrating the spirit of discovery and exploration.
The pen’s construction is completed with elegant brass rings at the cap and body, accentuating its vintage-inspired design. At the top of the cap, a transparent dome encloses the cap finial, providing a stunning view of the craftsmanship within, further elevating the pen’s distinctive aesthetic.
With only three pieces available, this fountain pen is a rare and coveted collector’s item, blending meticulous craftsmanship, rich history, and one-of-a-kind artistry into a functional work of art. Perfect for those who seek the extraordinary and wish to own a piece of true writing excellence.
The process begins with a master artisan carefully carving or engraving the surface of the pen, creating a recess or groove where the wire will be placed. Then, the chosen metal wire is precisely laid into these grooves, often in a flowing pattern or detailed image, such as a landscape, animal, or geometric design. The wire is pressed into place to ensure a secure fit. In the case of fountain pens, the wire is often only 0.12mm wide, making it a very painstaking technique to master.
Once the wire is in place, the artisan meticulously finishes the piece, smoothing the surface and polishing the surrounding material to ensure the wire is flush with the surface of the material. After that, the pen has to be coated with more than 15 layers of hard finish, which makes the wire inlay and the pen itself stand the test of time. The result is a stunning combination of metal and resin, ebonite or wood, creating a truly unique design that can be both admired and felt.
In fountain pens, the wire inlay technique serves not only as a decorative feature but also as a testament to the skill and precision of the craftsman, turning an ordinary pen into a functional work of art. The wire inlays, often capturing intricate themes like animals, nature, or historical figures, make each pen a truly bespoke and collectible item.
